Goldman Sachs -> McKinsey -> Leveraging offer?

Hey everyone!

I am an active poster here and I have created a new account just to get some privacy (hopefully) and some much needed advice from my fellow experienced primates. I've read around WSO but haven't found the thing that I'm looking for so here goes:

- I finished a long term internship at GS London within their financing group (capital markets) that ended earlier this year and was told that they don't have any space in the team to make me an offer right now so they'll pool me in with the summer guys and make me an offer for FT class of 2016 sometime around August if they deem me fit. In the meantime, I was able to secure a FT position at McKinsey starting later this year in a much lesser regional office. I'm under the impression the work will be for the country's biggest firms/public sector so not very 'sexy' as compared to a London office - at least for the short term.

- I did network with a couple of alum MDs in some industry coverage IBD groups which I found more interesting than the capital markets work that I was doing. The work was fun and quantitative but not something I'd like to do long-term. At McKinsey the work is much more fun and interesting but the lesser location and a significant pay cut unnerves me. My worry is that maybe in 2 years I don't like the consulting work and it might be harder for me to move to London from a regional location.

- Do you guys think that the guys at GS are just stalling and would probably reject me outright in a couple of months? The person who reviewed me mentioned i shouldn't rely on the offer coming in August and should shop around etc. My MD/team mentioned that he'd be happy to act as a reference if I interviewed other places and needed his help in any way.

- Would it make sense to get in touch with the MDs I networked with in the IBD groups to talk about my exploding offer and ask if they have space in their teams? Or, should I get in touch with the HR person and leverage the offer? How would you guys go about doing this? Would mentioning McKinsey maybe show them that I'm not sure/interested in investment banking? Should I get in touch with other top-tier banks like MS/LAZ/Centerview/etc in London and try and recruit there for next year? Any experiences/thoughts?

Thanks a lot for reading! :D
