Got a Question for all you with your infinite wisdom,
I'm going to be starting a job on the street next Monday. Really excited for it and am looking forward to learning a lot. The job I am starting has always been something I wanted to do, for the experience and learning opportunity, but has not been my dream job.
However, two days ago, I got a offer from my dream Job....
I told my dream job HR that I was starting this other job next week, and the HR team said, "great - but you need to give us a commitment of whether you accept our offer... oh... and we will let you start anytime from today up-to 9 months out".
Which means, I can do this new job for 9 months and then switch to my dream job....
Is there anything wrong with doing this ? I ask because
1) I can gain the experience with the current job (which is different from my dream job)... and still have my dream job open in 9 months
2) Yes, I am going to be going into the current job, potentially with a clear 9 month exit strategy ( but is that terribly bad? ).... if I didn't like this current job in 9 months, I might have tried to leave anyway...
3) I made a commitment to this current job, so I do not want to just reneg 5 days before I start ....
4) The dream job is OK with me working somewhere else before I start with them...
What do you people think? ethical, unethical ? OK and a part of life ? Do the best for me and get the most experience ?
Any thoughts / insights / advice appreciated.
