I have add a three informational calls last week. All three were with VPs at investments banks in NY (Moelis, BMO, and GS). The conversation usually starts with introductions and after exchanging background information I ask these questions:
1. Why did you choose investment banking and why that particular coverage group (or what is it like being a generalist-Moelis)?
2. Talk about culture at the firm, and why this firm specifically?
3. Recruitment and networking advice tips?
then the conversations ends with an awkward have a good day bye.
I wanted to know how I can reshape my questions to either get referred to another member of the investment bank, get asked for my resume, or end up with a super day (if that is even possible)
Thanks.
Also, I have a phone call with a Managing Director at Citi next week, any advice or good questions to ask the MD.
