After about a year of lurking I am finally posting my first thread on this forum. I have seen many posts regarding moving from east coast IB to west coast pe, or moving post MBA, but couldn't find any dealing specifically with the transition straight from undergrad.
For a multitude of reasons (Lifestyle, Weather, Family etc.) I am looking to establish a career on the West Coast (Primarily SoCal) and am looking to start out in banking in LA (or SF if necessary). To give a little background, I go to a semi-target on the East Coast and am currently in the process of recruiting for SA. Whenever I mention my interest in the West Coast, I am always told that it will not be possible to recruit straight out of UG from the east and that I should go to NY for 2 years and make the move after.
My question (specifically for anyone who has undertaken this or currently works in IB on the West Coast); are these people correct in saying that it would be a waste of time, or is there a chance that I could network my way into some opportunities out west straight from UG.
