What were the most difficult or unexpected interview questions asked?:
In the motivational interview, they really pressed me on why ABN AMRO. They asked this question multiple times, as well as why ABN AMRO instead of Lazard, DB or ING. Moreover, they asked me to discuss a time of my life that proves that I am commercial since I was interviewing for a front office role.
In the technical questions, the most difficult questions was what risk free rate would you take now and why. Also, they asked me to go through a DCF, do a simple accounting depreciation over the three financial statements and a small case, in which they gave me the average subscription for a low cost gym in the area of Amsterdam Zuid and I would have to estimate the number of customers it needs to break even.
Overall, how would you describe your interview experience?:
Very Positive

Please describe the interview / hiring process.:
Fairly simple process. You apply online, and then you are invited for online tests. There were two matrices/inductive reasoning tests and a numerical sequences test. Then you are invited for two 2x1 interviews, in each one of which you are with an associate and a senior associate. The first one is motivational and the second a bit more technical.

How did you answer each of these questions (please be specific)?:
For the motivational, it really helps to have discussed with people from the company or former interns. This will strengthen the validity of your words. Some arguments can be the collegial environment of the bank, the no-facetime culture, and the fact that it is the best Dutch ECM House.
Regarding the technicals, you need to be able to discuss the risk free rate. When the interest rates are very low and are expected to increase in the next months, you will not take the 10yr German Bond, but you will instead take the 30year bond or so. This includes the illiquidity premium, which increases the yield and thus normalizes the risk free rate. Regarding the case, I did assumptions regarding depreciation, employees, rent & utility expenses. Then you divide by the value of the subscription and you come down to the number of customers.
