Big-Bulge Investment Banking Hiring for Non-US citizen

I am a non-US citizen graduating from a US university this semester, and I am headed to a 12-month Masters in Finance program in London post-graduate. My hope is to get a full-time job in New York as an investment banker afterwards. I am just wondering if anyone has walked my path before, and I would appreciate it very much if you could give me a pointer or two on trodding this path.

P.S. getting a FT job in London in opposed to NY is also great, but I prefer to be in NY due to my desired career momentum in the east coast.
