Prospects of transferring from a non-target to a target undergrad?

I've always wondered what the opinions were on this topic? On one side you can be a big fish in a small pond perhaps but on the other side at a target there's a far bigger alumni network and also on campus recruitment. FWIW if I were to transfer to a target in CA in '16 I would only be sacrificing about half a semester's worth of units give or take 2-5 units. So it is definitely something I have at least thought of if it would make getting in a top AM firm any easier. Obviously with a 3.7 I am on par for USC, a slight reach for cal, and a nobel peace prize away from Stanford (not happening). I'd really like to stay in CA for undergrad unless by some miracle I got in Penn, Chicago, or Harvard. Another question would be what is the easiest target to get into? My plan at the moment is just to apply to USC and maybe Cal and see what happens from there.
